E-Filing of Tax Returns

Steps for e-filing are :

(1) Get your PAN
(2) Register your PAN by visiting www.incometaxindia.gov.in
(3) Choose the right ITR form and the return preparation software and download them.
(4) In the form select the sheets that are applicable to you and accordingly fill them.
(5) Then generate XML version and save it in your computer.
(6) Connect to the internet and visit the website and login using your PAN.
(7) Click the E-filing icon for the relevant year and move the relevant XML file.
(8) Insert the e-token into the USB drive. [Points 8 & 9 not applicable, if digital signature is not available. ]
(9) Digitally sign the return using Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) by entering the e-token password.
(10) Now upload the file.
(11) On successful upload a message will be displayedgiving your acknowledgement number. You can download and save/print it for your records.
Form V will be generated for retuns not signed by DSC. Print it in A4 paper using laser or ink jet printer in white paper [ text in black colour].
Sign the return and send it to:
Income Tax Department - CPC, Post Box No:1 Electornic City Post Office, Bangalore, Karnataka 560001 by ORDINARY OR SPEED POST.
(12) You can check the returns filed by you selecting the relevant menu option. This will prompt you to choose the relevant assessment year from a list.
Choose the assessmet year and click. Now you will find details of return filed : date, return number and acknowledgement number.                                      You can also download acknowledgement from here.
